This half-day revalidation course is for sailors who have already completed the AS/World Sailing Offshore Safety and Sea Survival course and need to renew their certificate. Refresh your practical safety and survival skills, update your knowledge of modern offshore procedures and equipment, and maintain certification for offshore racing and professional sailing.

Sea Survival Revalidation CourseThis practical half-day course revalidates your Australian Sailing / World Sailing Offshore Safety & Sea Survival certificate, helping you maintain the knowledge and practical skills required for offshore racing and passagemaking.

The course meets the requirements of the World Sailing Offshore Special Regulations, Appendix G, Part D for Offshore Personal Survival refresher training.

During the practical session you'll refresh the essential survival techniques, liferaft procedures and emergency skills needed to respond confidently in an offshore emergency.

  • Lifejacket inflation and in-water survival drills
  • Recovery techniques using throwing lines and drogues

Experienced instructors

Your training is delivered by Australian Sailing / World Sailing accredited instructors using modern offshore safety equipment in realistic practical exercises.

All safety and training equipment is provided by Flying Fish.

Location

The practical training is conducted at Warringah Aquatic Centre, Aquatic Drive, Frenchs Forest, NSW.

Before you start

  • This revalidation course is for sailors who have previously completed an Australian Sailing, RYA or World Sailing (formerly ISAF) Offshore Safety & Sea Survival course and need to renew their certificate.
  • Your certificate should still be current or have expired within the last 24 months.
  • If your certificate expired more than 24 months ago, you will need to complete the full two-day Offshore Safety & Sea Survival course.

On successful completion, your Offshore Safety & Sea Survival certificate will be revalidated in accordance with the World Sailing Offshore Special Regulations.

  • My certificate expired more than two years ago. Can I still attend this course?
    • No. If your Australian Sailing, RYA or World Sailing Offshore Safety & Sea Survival certificate expired more than 24 months ago, you will need to complete the full Offshore Safety & Sea Survival course again.
  • Should I complete the full course instead?
    • If you would like to refresh the theory, communications, live flare drills and the full range of practical exercises, we recommend booking the full Offshore Safety & Sea Survival course rather than the half-day revalidation course.
  • Can I book a private course for my club or crew?
    • Yes. We can arrange private courses for yacht clubs, race crews and sailing organisations.
    • Private courses are available for groups of eight or more and receive a 10% discount per person.
  • What should I bring?
    • Swimwear and a towel.
    • Comfortable clothing and non-slip footwear.
    • A change of clothes.
    • All safety equipment is provided by Flying Fish.
  • Is this certificate accepted for offshore racing?
    • Yes. The revalidated Australian Sailing / World Sailing Offshore Safety & Sea Survival certificate is recognised for many offshore racing events conducted under the World Sailing Offshore Special Regulations.
    • Always check the Notice of Race or Sailing Instructions for your specific event, as organisers may have additional requirements.
  • How long is my revalidated certificate valid?
    • Your revalidated certificate is generally valid for five years.
    • Provided your certificate has not expired for more than 24 months, you can renew it again by completing another revalidation course.
